Henry Smith, the boyfriend of Abba star Anni-Frid Reuss, has become the 5th Viscount Hambleden after the death of his father – according to the Telegraph.
Already a princess, having been married to a late German prince, the Abba star Anni-Frid Reuss is now living with a British peer. Mandrake learns that the Swedish singer’s boyfriend, Henry Smith, has become the 5th Viscount Hambleden after the death of his father earlier this month at the age of 82.
Anni-Frid, who is better known as Frida Lyngstad, lives in Switzerland with Smith, whose family founded the W H Smith chain. As well as the viscountcy, Smith, 56, stood to inherit the idyllic Hambleden Estate in the Chilterns, but the family sold it in 2007.
The Buckinghamshire picture-postcard village, where Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and 101 Dalmatians were filmed, fetched £39 million.
Anni-Frid, 66, married Prince Heinrich Reuss in 1992, but was widowed seven years later. She had been previously married twice.
Her first marriage, at the age of 17, was to Ragnar Fredriksson, a Swedish salesman and musician. They had two children, Hans, 49, and Ann, who died in a car accident in 1998. The singer’s second marriage was to her fellow Abba star Benny Andersson, but they separated after only three years.
Through her success with Abba, she built up a considerable fortune, with estimates putting her wealth at £100 million.
Smith has two daughters by his former wife, Sally, an American, whom he met in California while he was flirting with a career as a film producer. They married in 1983, but separated in 2003.
Anni-Frid and Smith made their relationship public in 2008 when they attended the London premiere of Mamma Mia!, the Abba- inspired film. They had been courting secretly for several months.
