40 years ago today Agnetha, BJörn, Benny and Frida arrived for their first ever visit to Australia.
During the visit they recorded the only Australian TV exclusive, The Best Of ABBA special for channel 9.
The show was seen by more people than the first moon landing and was repeated over 6 times by Channel 9. Including an edited version.
They also did a special performance of Mamma Mia for Bandstand. Which was show the week before the TV special and was not included in the show.
Along with that they filmed on a closed set, the yet unreleased song Dancing Queen. This clip was used on Bandstand later in the year when the song was released as a single
While in Melbourne they also appeared on the Don Lane Show
Abba spent 10 amazing days in Australia. Filming was also done for an International version of the show titled ABBA DOWN UNDER where the group visited and filmed segments at Taronga Park Zoo and a trip on the Hawkesbury river.
They also made a guest appearance on Celebrity Squares for 1 week.
It simply was The Best Of ABBA!
